A rare collectible watch with the slogan “Pontus lives” engraved on it was presented to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis by Greek expatriates in Russia on the sidelines of his meeting with President Vladimir Putin in Sochi.
It was the second time that Kyriakos Mitsotakis was in the area, after 30 years.
In July 1991, he accompanied Marika’s mother, the father and then Prime Minister, Konstantinos Mitsotakis, on a mission to Moscow and then to the Black Sea region, where solid Greek populations from Pontus live, in Anapa and Gelendzhik cities.
“It has been 30 years since the first shocking meeting for all of us, but the current one, in Sochi, will be unforgettable,” Valerios Aslanidis, president, told the Athenian / Macedonian News Agency radio station “Agency 104.9” of the Greek community Anapa- Vitsizevo, “Gorgopia”.
“We were thinking of giving Mr. Mitsotakis a souvenir and offered him a rare watch from the collection of the Greek veteran of Pontian Hellenism in southern Russia, Alexandros Koussidis, from Novorossiysk,” he explained.
“The clock is one hundred years old and on its plate a clock engraved the slogan on the occasion of the completion of a century since the Genocide of the Greeks of Pontus in Asia Minor. “My dream was to give it on behalf of the Federation of Greek Communities of Russia to the Prime Minister of Greece in honor of the event, his first visit to our country, 30 years ago, with his father, also Prime Minister of Greece,” he said. Kousidis himself.
As part of the suffocating program of the visit, the Prime Minister received a delegation of Greek expatriates from the Anapa region in the Black Sea, which was also visited by Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias on the occasion of his meeting in Sochi with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov. As in the visit of the Foreign Minister, so in that of the Greek Prime Minister, the expatriates reserved a warm welcome for them.
