The passage of the severe bad weather that hit the country and in Samos was disastrous, as in the early hours of Friday in the village of Marathokampos, an operation became a “fire trap” while stormy winds were blowing in the area.

Specifically, at 00:50, when extreme bad weather was occurring in the village and there were continuous power outages, a fire broke out in the interior of a small supermarket in the location of Agios Antonios.

20 firefighters with 8 vehicles rushed to the scene and tried.

Unconfirmed information speaks of a short circuit as a result of the bad weather, however, according to the fire department, the causes of the fire have not yet been officially ascertained and the incident is being investigated by the competent investigative department of the Fire Service.

Residents of the village are talking about an explosion that took place at a time when particularly unfavorable weather conditions prevailed in the area.

It is recalled that there was also a strong hailstorm on the island with narrow roads being filled with thick hail, which resembled a snowy landscape, and then turning into rivers.

The problems caused by the severe bad weather are also great in Rhodes, with the gusty winds causing significant damage, as indicatively on the coastal road of the Afandou area, the intensity of the waves was such that it “dug up” a large section of the road.

In fact, the powerful Beaufort swept away, railings from balconies, trees and even parked bicycles while the island was cut off from traffic and traffic lights were put out of order.

Due to the occurrence of heavy rains and storms, accompanied by strong winds, the Fire Department Operations Center received 19 calls today, mainly for tree cutting.

Specifically:

• 16 calls for tree cutting, while actions were taken in 13 cases

• 1 call for pumping water in which actions were taken

• 2 calls for object removals, which were acted upon
