Murder in Kalamata: It all started with “spoiled” drugs

The 38-year-old Albanian murderer was brought before the Kalamata investigator on Saturday and claimed that he did not want to kill the 47-year-old Greek-American, but to ask him for an explanation as to why he had sold him 5 grams of “spoiled” cocaine and sent him to the hospital

A supply of cocaine that… went bad, because the “American” fooled the 38-year-old Albanian, seems to be the motive behind the murder of the 47-year-old “American” or “Gus”, on the morning of January 20 at the junction of Hydra and Solonos streets, in Kalamata.

The 38-year-old Albanian killer was brought before the Kalamata investigator on Saturday and claimed that he did not want to kill the 47-year-old Greek-American, but wanted to ask him for an explanation as to why the “American” had sold him 5 grams of “spoiled” cocaine and sent him to the hospital.

After his confession, he was adjudged by the prosecutor and the investigator to be temporarily detained for premeditated homicide in a calm state of mind as an accomplice. A 22-year-old man of Albanian origin and alleged accomplice in the crime gave an explanation to the investigator about the murder last Wednesday and was taken to prison, as he was considered a temporary prisoner.

The fight in October and the cocaine… a gift

In the apologetic memorandum submitted by the Albanian murderer to the investigator, he allegedly took the killing of the “American” upon himself, and claimed that the 22-year-old accused as his accomplice simply wanted to buy 2 grams of cocaine from the victim and since they were together he “exploited” the appointment. According to the claims of the 38-year-old, they had differences with the “American” because he was “buying” cocaine from him and last year in September he ended up in the hospital. When he got out of the hospital he spread the word in Kalamata that the “American” was selling “spoiled” cocaine and one night towards the end of October, outside a nightclub, they got into a fight and the “American” assaulted him. In time, however, some mutual explanations were given, and the victim – according to his killer’s claims – admitted to selling him counterfeit cocaine. And he ordered him, to atone for him, to give him a gift of 10 grams of cocaine.

He carried the pistol everywhere

The gift of cocaine, however, the “American” kept putting off giving it to him, because he supposedly didn’t have it, and when he made the appointment with the 22-year-old for the 2 grams, the accused murderer allegedly claimed that he took the opportunity to confront him and take what is rightfully his. The nine-barreled pistol with which he killed his victim (s.s. and then disappeared by throwing him into the sea) by shooting him once in the shin of his left leg, he claimed he always carried with him. He even allegedly claimed that if he wanted to kill the “American” he would not have shot him in the leg in the morning and in the center of Kalamata, but with his features covered and at night he would have set up a cartel outside his house.

The Bulgarian is free

On Saturday, a 34-year-old Bulgarian, who was renting the room in a Tenants business in Akrogiali Avias, where the 38-year-old Albanian was hiding, was also found before the investigator. Voulgaros was arrested with him in the room and was already sentenced to 18 months in prison with a suspended sentence by the Three-member Criminal Court of Kalamata for supporting a criminal, while on Saturday he apologized to the investigator for the charge of drug trafficking, as the police found 80 grams of hashish in the room. After his confession, he was released by the prosecutor and the investigator with the restrictive conditions of not leaving the country and appearing twice a month at the police station of his place of residence.

Counsel’s statement

The lawyer of the 38-year-old Albanian defendant Charalambos Lykoudis stated after the end of the proceedings: “From the circumstances of the act and all the evidence, the lack of homicidal intent is demonstrated. The place being a busy spot, the time being rush hour, going in his car, avoiding any means of covering his features, the one and only shot directed towards the ground even though it was 2-3 meters away and he could, if he chose, shoot him in a vulnerable spot, are key indicators that lead easily to the conclusion that my principal did not intend to take human life. I am sure that in the course of the case the legal characterization of the act will change”.
