Father of Lt. Gen. Turutsika to SKAI: He always flew in war conditions – He told me I was doing it for the Fatherland

by

“He had clearly told me that he didn’t care if he was killed on the plane to the Homeland,” said Konstantinos Touroutsikas, speaking to “Mismatched”

The father of the deceased lieutenant colonel Marios-Michael Turoutsikas, Kostas, spoke on SKAI’s program Atariastoi, who referred to the tragic incident:

“Marios was always a smiling and kind kid, he didn’t want to do anything other than pilot a fighter and he succeeded. Icaron was his first choice.

I knew he was a good operator and I was only worried about the night flights.

I had seen him for a long time, almost five months and the day before the accident he had come to Tripoli and I saw him.

It was the first time we sat for so many hours together and saw Tsitsipas.

He had made it clear to me that I don’t care if I get killed on the plane home. This is my job, this is what I have decided.

His flights were all in wartime conditions. He didn’t say much, he didn’t answer about his work. And he didn’t even say what his job was, he said he was an aviator. He never went out in his overalls. He didn’t have facebook. He didn’t like to show off.”

Mr. Kostas Turoutsikas added that a few months ago the Phantom, which was captained by his son, had suffered a breakdown and had made an emergency landing in Souda.

When asked what he would say to a father whose son now tells him he wants to go to Ikaron, he emphasized that “it’s the hardest question I’ve been asked. I don’t know what I can answer. He will see and get the best in the Greek army if anyone goes. If both the parents and the child can withstand the psychological pressure to go. If they feel strong enough to withstand the pressure, it’s the best profession and they will be proud as I am.”
