Ukraine’s foreign ministry today criticized Croatian President Zoran Milanovic for saying Crimea would never return to Ukrainian control, calling his comment “unacceptable”.
Russia annexed the Crimean peninsula from Ukraine in 2014.
In statements he made yesterday, Monday, analyzing his objections to the provision of military aid from Zagreb to Kyiv, Milanovic said it is “clear that Crimea will never be part of Ukraine again”.
“We consider unacceptable the statements of the president of Croatia, who essentially questioned the territorial integrity of Ukraine,” Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko said in a Facebook post.
Oleg Nikolenko wrote features:
“Croatian President Zoran Milanovic believes that Crimea will never be Ukraine again. He also warned against confronting Russia, which has nuclear weapons. I wonder if Zoran Milanovic could have become president of his country with such rhetoric in the 1990s as Croatia struggled to maintain its statehood? Would his voters agree to turn a blind eye to the occupation of part of their country? I doubt. I remind you that due to external aggression Croatia could lose a third of its territory. However, thanks to the heroic struggle, the Croats were able to protect the independence of their country. We find unacceptable the statements of the President of Croatia, who actually questioned the territorial integrity of Ukraine. On the contrary, we highly appreciate and thank the Croatian government and the Croatian people for their unwavering support to the Ukrainians in the fight against Russian aggression».
