The estranged husband of Roula Pispirigou and father of the three dead girls, Manos Daskalakis, took the witness stand today. Daskalakis, who began his testimony by mentioning when he met her and how they soon decided to have a child, even described threats from the accused. His testimony, which did not end today, is expected to continue on February 7.
“We were very happy, there was no problem, the accused was a very good mother, at least this was shown to all of us,” said Manos Daskalakis characteristically, beginning his testimony.
Previously, the defense tactics for his client had been described by her advocate, Alexis Kougias, talking about medical errors and wrong assessments by experts.
“First they arrested her and then they started sending documents from the hospitals,” he said characteristically. Pispirigou takes notes during the testimony of Manos Daskalakis. She earlier declared her innocence and asked for the trial to be stopped in order to call other witnesses.
Continuing his testimony, Manos Daskalakis referred to a verbal fight he had with the accused and that he then left the house. “Ten days later I came home and we talked with the accused. The accused told me that I want you to stay here for me. I’m gone”.
He then described moments when Georgina entered the hospital. “The accused informed me, telling me that the child felt a bomb on his back, he was having convulsions and asked me to go to the hospital. As the mother of my children, I had to support her throughout this process and especially when there were toxicology tests.
It never occurred to me that she might have done something and I supported her until her arrest.
The accused was constantly on the phones with journalists looking for answers through journalists. He kept asking if the results of the toxicology have come out.
My father was by her side and supported her. One afternoon he comes back and aggressively tells him if they accuse me I will take him with me. He asked her what she meant. He replied to him, “I say so.”
Daskalakis described that Georgina had a special weakness for him. “On 15.1.2022 I announce to her that it is better for us to be apart for the good of the child. He had an exam scheduled on the 17th. He was released from hospital. I received a video call, he told me about a seizure. I told her get the doctors. The first time in months that the child had been hurt. Inducted into Rio. He went abroad, did two or three episodes. In one, only I was present. I got into an argument with an ICU doctor about it because he said he didn’t have anything. He eventually went to the ICU. did not make any episode. Doctor Iliadis told him to go to Aglaia Kyriakou, where there was an encephalograph. The electroencephalogram showed nothing.
In Aglaia Kyriakou, the child fell. Completely. Since I left. For the last 24 hours he could not open his eyes at all. On the 29th I got leave. I was on the Kiatou bus to Athens when he called me and told me that the doctors are trying to bring her back.
Then Manos Daskalakis answered the president’s questions:
The child was growing wonderfully. She was healthy and perfectly normal.
President: How was the accused as a mother?
Manos: She was flawless.
Q: I’ve heard it 2-3 times. You described us.
Man: That makes a mother overprotective.
Q: What do you mean?
Man: Don’t let others get close, don’t let the child get stuck in anything.
Q: Why did your relationship go bad?
Mann: In 2018, the accused was working in a hotel. We didn’t get along, I had a casual relationship with a woman that lasted 4 months and I saw her all of 6 times. I confessed it to the defendant who accepted me back and told me that she expected it because I was young. But I made it clear to her that I will not accept such a thing from her side. In 2019 I learned and she herself admitted that she had been with a person known to me.
Then Manos Daskalakis stated that he left the house when he found out about the accused’s extramarital affair:
Q: How old was Georgina when Malena died?
Mann: 5.5 – 6
Q: How did you manifest the loss?
Mann: The child because all the relatives fell up exploited him in quotes until he attended some sessions. He was a dominant character the most loved kid in school. He had never shown intense grief.
Q: How did Georgina cope when Iris was born?
Mann: I was against having another child after we had lost Malena. Georgina was always looking for a new child, she wanted a sibling. We decided with the defendant to have a child. Our relations were excellent.
Q: How did Georgina experience the loss of Iris?
Mann: My father took her home. He kept asking if my sister is an angel. He didn’t mention anything to me.
