Sakellaropoulou: PD and Doctors of the World distributed food to the homeless

The President of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, the Doctors of the World and the Dinner of Love in a joint action, on Christmas Eve approached our fellow homeless people living in the greater area of ​​Athens and Piraeus, to offer them practical assistance, continuing the support of our vulnerable fellow human beings.

Hot food, Covid19 personal protective equipment and cold protection items were distributed at the event, while the doctor and social worker of the Doctors of the World street work team provided primary health care, counseling and information about the pandemic to people who do not have systemic access to public information.

The food was prepared by the chef of the Presidency of the Republic, Vassilis Beka and was distributed to people who need it.

Ms. Sakellaropoulou was accompanied by the Secretary General of Social Solidarity and the Fight against Poverty, George Stamatis.

With her presence, the President of the Republic makes it clear that people living without a home are not invisible to the State, while the General Director of Doctors of the World, Eugenia Thanou, said “These are days of celebration and solidarity around the world. an opportunity to look to our side, to put aside our own problems and all together to help our fellow human beings who need us the most. But at the same time, we must not forget how important it is to be next to each other, taking care of and dealing with all the problems together “.

Intervention in areas where the homeless population is concentrated, is a regular and ongoing action of Doctors of the World, especially in recent years when the pandemic has caused additional difficulties in the lives of vulnerable social groups. It is the mission of the Doctors of the World, to be where there are needs, where there are people.
