Confidence in services has its 2nd monthly drop in December, shows FGV

by

The ICS (Services Confidence Index) dropped 1.3 point in December, to 95.5 points, in the second consecutive fall of the indicator, informed the FGV (Fundação Getulio Vargas) this Tuesday (28).

The drop reflected a worsening in the assessment of the current situation — with a drop of 0.3 points, to 92.5 points — and a reduction in expectations — a drop of 2.2 points, to 98.7 points, the lowest level in seven months .

“Although the vaccination program continues advancing, the scenario for the coming months still seems very uncertain, mainly due to the more fragile macroeconomic environment and the doubts about a new variant”, evaluated in a note FGV economist Ibre Rodolpho Tobler.

Quarterly services confidence declined in the last quarter of the year, after having pointed to a strong recovery in the previous three months. The average for this quarter fell 1.1 point below the average for the July-September period.
