The Tourism Minister toured Florina and Amyntaio on Saturday
Florina and Amyntaio were visited today, Saturday by Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias, accompanied by Florina MP of the ND Yiannis Antoniadis.
In the morning Mr. Kikilias held a meeting with the Deputy Governor of Florina of the Region of Western Macedonia Sotiris Vosdou, the mayor of Florina Vassilis Giannakis and the mayor of Prespon Panagiotis Paschalides, while a wide meeting followed with the participation of representatives of hotel businesses and restaurants of P.E. Florina .
The Minister of Tourism pointed out that the region has great potential for tourism development and urged the regional-local self-government bodies as well as private individuals to respond to the calls for interest that are expected in the near future to upgrade the infrastructure with resources from the National Recovery Fund. He also invited them to participate in the international tourism exhibitions with the aim of promoting Western Macedonia, which has unique destinations and is suitable for alternative, winter, skiing, mountaineering, sports tourism, agro-tourism, wine tourism, gastronomy, hiking, etc.
“Western Macedonia is the next big bet for Greek tourism. Its lakes, vineyards, nature activities, ski resorts, gastronomy, tradition can make it a year-round destination,” he said, noting that the Ministry of Tourism proved during the last tourist season that with proper strategic planning (EOT campaigns, agreements with strong players in tourism, openings in new markets) it can “light up” destinations in the country that were not particularly prominent until now.
At noon, Mr. Kikilias went to Amyntaio where he held a meeting with the mayor Anthimos Bitakis. On the sidelines of the meeting, the Minister also discussed with representatives of the Agricultural and Livestock Association of Eastern Eordaia and Vegoritis.
This was followed by a meeting with producers of local products in which the connection of tourism with primary production and small and medium enterprises was underlined.
“All together – Ministry of Tourism, EOT, Vice-region, Municipalities, Marketing Greece, private individuals – we should take advantage of the incomparable beauties of Western Macedonia and the unique experience it offers, so as to attract travelers, to upgrade the triangle “Florina-Prespes- Amyntaeo and to support the local communities” said V. Kikilias characteristically.
