Vehicular traffic was suspended on the new Athens-Lamia highway in both directions, from the height of the Kalyftaki bridge, up to the Tragana toll, as announced by Nea Odos. Earlier, the National Highway was closed until Oinophyta.

Nea Odos informs drivers that Attica Traffic has stopped traffic on the Athens-Lamia highway. In particular, the section of the national road from A/K Kalyftakis to A/K Traganas is closed at this time in both traffic streams.

According to the announcement, the decision was taken “for special security reasons and in order to avoid causing traffic problems due to the occurrence of adverse weather phenomena”.

It is clarified that the ban on the movement of all types of heavy vehicles with a maximum permissible weight of more than 3.5 tons, regardless of the use of anti-skid chains, in both traffic streams of Athens-Lamia is in force.

Nea Odos has taken all the necessary measures to manage the phenomena and all of our people and mechanism are fully prepared. However, due to the severity of the weather, it is recommended to avoid unnecessary travel.

As the Traffic Police reports, traffic was stopped as a precaution, as vehicles that did not have anti-skid chains were stopped on the highway.

The announcement of the Police

In its announcement EL.AS. states:

“For special safety reasons and in order to avoid causing traffic problems due to the occurrence of adverse weather phenomena, from 14:10 today 05.02.2023 the traffic of vehicles is not allowed regardless of the use of anti-skid chains in both traffic streams of N.E.O. Athens-Lamiain her department from the height of A/K Kalyftakis to the height of A/K Oinofyta (m/f 52,000).

It is clarified that the traffic ban on all types of heavy vehicles with a maximum permissible weight of more than 3.5 tons, regardless of the use of anti-skid chains, in both traffic streams of N.E.O. Athens-Lamia, in its section from the height of A/K Kalyftakis to h/th 57,300 (limits of the Province of Attica) to be valid.

The drivers of these vehicles are requested to avoid driving on the above road sections in order to avoid inconvenience and the creation of additional traffic problems and to follow the instructions of the traffic controllers.

At the same time, traffic has been interrupted:

  • on Anastaseos Street in Papagou, from the height of its junction with Anatolis Street, towards Ymittos.
  • on Ethnikis Antistaseos Street in Kaisariani from the height of Katehaki Avenue towards Ymittos.
  • on the Pentelis – Nea Makris ring road from S.N. Pentelis 414 to the area before the east of Nea Makris.
  • on the provincial road Tatoiou – Ag. Mercuriou from the height of the junction with Chlois street (royal estates) in Varybompi in the traffic flow towards Ag. Mercury.
  • on the provincial road Malakasas – Ag. Mercuriou from the height of its junction with Tyrtaiou street in Afidnes, in the traffic flow towards Ag. Mercury.
  • Additionally, according to the latest update from ELAS, the traffic on the old Elefsina-Thebes national road in both traffic streams from X/Th 5,000 (Revoil gas station-former Cyclon) to the borders of Attica Prefecture with Voiotia Prefecture (X/Θ 30,000), is carried out only with the use of anti-slip chains.

The Traffic Directorate of Thessaloniki announces that due to the occurrence of extraordinary adverse weather phenomena, from 23:00 on 02-04-2023 until the weather phenomena subside, the traffic of all types of heavy vehicles with a maximum permissible weight of more than 3.5 tons, in the direction of Thessaloniki to Athens on the road axis of the PATHE Motorway, from Malgaron Toll Road to Kleidi Junction, excluding those of the above vehicles whose final destination is the city of Larissa.

For the permitted moving vehicles on the above road network, destined for the prefectures of Pieria, Larissa, Magnesia, Fthiotida, Viotia and Attica, the owners of cars of all other categories are reminded of the obligation to equip and use their vehicles with anti-skid chains or other similar anti-skid means, excluding vehicles with special tires (snow tires with a special marking of the “alpine” symbol).

Excluded from these traffic regulations are:

– emergency vehicles (E.K.A.B., P.Y., etc.),

– roadside assistance vehicles,

– the vehicles that transport salt and

– vehicles heading from Kliidi junction to Egnatia road (Veroia, Kozani, etc.).
