The rescuers who are making a titanic effort to save human lives after the deadly earthquake in Turkey were warmly thanked by the Minister of Health Thanos Pleuris and the Deputy Minister of Health Mina Gaga.

The Minister of Health Thanos Pleuris and the Deputy Minister of Health Mina Gaga attended the EKAB Operations Center where they were thoroughly informed by the President of the EKAB, Nikos Papaefstathiou and also by the Director Head of the Special Disaster Department of the EKAB (ETIK-EKAB), doctor Anastasia Zygoura, about the conditions faced by the specialists in dealing with mass health loss and disasters, rescuers and doctors of the team currently in Turkey.

The Minister and the Deputy Minister had live communication, through a special communication system available to EKAB, with the staff of ETIK who were operating at that moment in the areas affected by the earthquake. The Minister of Health Thanos Pleuris stated: “Thank you for all the struggle you do, the self-sacrifice and solidarity you show. You really move us every time we hear that we also have a happy event in this misery: that you manage to save a person, a child. The most important thing is that we as Greeks show our solidarity and support in this disaster that has happened. We are truly proud and honored by you“, underlined the Minister of Health.

For her part, Deputy Minister of Health Mina Gaga emphasized:

Good day from me too. Be well and carry on. Thanks so much for all you do. And for Greece and for the doctors and nurses and for all of humanity if you want, because what you are doing is humane, extremely important for the people there and for all of us. Keep doing it and be strong. I hope things are not too difficult for you. Have courage and strength. Be well, thank you».

For their part, the rescuers thanked the political leadership of the Ministry of Health, stressing that they are fighting a battle against time.

Our work here is no different from what we do in our everyday life. The battle to protect human life. What differs is scale and time. This is a huge humanitarian disaster“, said among others the members of ETIK-EKAB.
