Eighty tons of humanitarian aid from Greece to Turkey: The first part has been delivered

The humanitarian aid mission from Greece to Turkey is in full progress – Our country will send a total of approximately 80 tons of health and medical equipment, basic necessities, such as 7,500 blankets, 1,500 beds and 500 tents

Dawn done at 06:30 in the morning the overnight operation of sending the first part of the Greek humanitarian aid to Turkey to relieve the victims and cover immediate needs that have arisen after the devastating earthquake.

Greece immediately responded to the relevant request submitted by the Turkish side through the European Civil Protection Mechanism, organizing a mission in cooperation with the European Commission and in consultation with the authorities of the neighboring country and the assistance of the Turkish Ambassador in Athens.

The first part of humanitarian aid left Eleftherios Venizelos Airport at 01:45 after midnight on Thursday, accompanied by the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Christos Stylianides and the General Secretary of Civil Protection Vasilios Papageorgiou, consisting of health and medical equipment and first aid items.

The Greek delegation was welcomed at the airport in Adana, on behalf of the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Ambassador Mehmet Güllüoglu and other officials of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In his statements during the delivery of the humanitarian aid, Christos Stylianidis underlined:

“I am here by order of the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, accompanying the Greek delegation, to express our solidarity with the Turkish people. We transported health, medical and pharmaceutical material and basic necessities to ease the pain of the earthquake victims a little. We thank the Turkish government and Ambassador Güllüoglu for being here to welcome us at this very difficult time. Greece, the EU as a whole, stands by the Turkish people, showing solidarity in action. It is the moment when we must all show our humanitarian feelings towards the Turkish people who are being tested because of this earthquake, the devastating consequences of which are beyond imagination.”

In order to complete the mission of Greek humanitarian aid to Turkey and with the aim of reaching those affected as soon as possible, a series of flights to the neighboring country, with AEGEAN aircraft, have been planned and are being carried out since the dawn of Thursday.

Our country will ship a total of about 80 tons of health and medical supplies and basic necessities, such as 7,500 blankets, 1,500 beds and 500 tents that can accommodate families and be used as mobile clinics.

It is noted that the cost of transporting the humanitarian aid is covered by 75% by the European Civil Protection Mechanism, while the remaining 25% of the national participation is sponsored by the AEGEAN airline.
