In addition to security, the possibility of this year’s Cup final being held abroad also has to do with the fact that it will raise the quality of Greek football.
At the same time, Takis Baltakos, with the president of the EPO also referring to the issue of the registry, recording the difficulties that exist, while pointing out that measures may also be taken for the situation in Super League 2.
In detail, what Baltakos said to the media representatives on the sidelines of the Heraklion EPS event:
For holding the Cup final outside Greece: “The fact that the EPO wants to hold the Cup final in a foreign country from July shows that it wants to improve the sport. The choice of the final abroad is not made only to avoid incidents. It is also happening because we need to improve football, for it to rise in quality in our country. If, for example, we go to play the Cup final at a Premier League ground, that raises the quality of the sport. With such acts, EPO tries to show that football should not be toxic. It’s a people’s sport and we do actions for it.”
For the registry: “As you know since July and August there have been efforts to improve the image of the registry in terms of unions. We can’t do anything about the registry while we’re in February and the leagues are still going. We will make another attempt from the summer, and the teams will be updated. The problem that exists in Lasithi is big, efforts will be made to make the register accepted by all groups”.
For the National team and the possibility to compete in Heraklion: “For the national team to come here, the stadium should be 100% compatible with what UEFA is asking for. Otherwise it won’t let us play the game. In Volos, some small corrections were made and that’s why the national team went.”
On the current situation in Super League 2: “Super League 2 as well as Super League 1 are relatively autonomous in relation to EPO. Of course, EPO also controls football in Greece, but they are two categories that have their own autonomy. We are monitoring the situation in Super League 2 and if it continues, the EPO will have to intervene.”
