Thessaloniki: Record in viral wastewater load – Exceeded the highest values ​​of the 3rd wave |

The tendency of concentrating the viral load in the municipal waste of Thessaloniki in the daily measurements remains increasing in the context of the research conducted by the Sewage Epidemiology Team of AUTh with EYATH, in collaboration with the Region of Central Macedonia and within the National Network of EODY.

In fact, the prices recorded in recent days have exceeded the highest prices recorded in the third part of the pandemic and the trend is steadily increasing.

Specifically, in the samples taken daily at the entrance of the Thessaloniki Wastewater Treatment Plant, regarding the rationalized values ​​of relative viral load secretion, the average value of the two most recent measurements, ie Wednesday 03/11 and Thursday 04/11 is:

Marginally constant (+ 7%) in relation to the average value of the two immediately preceding measurements of Monday 1/11 and Tuesday 2/11.

-Increased (+ 23%) compared to the average price of the previous Wednesday 27/10 and Thursday 28/10

“Now every increase in the viral load that we measure daily cumulatively corresponds to a significant spread of the virus in the community, which we see reflected in the increase of the confirmed daily cases that are announced. It is necessary to adhere to the measures, both those related to social and economic activities, as well as the individual prevention and protection from exposure to the virus. “Even now, it is not too late for those who were skeptical to hear the voice of science, to hurry to be vaccinated, to protect their lives and the lives of their relatives”, said to APE-MPE the rector of AUTh and scientifically responsible for the research project, prof. Nikos Papaioannou.

The coronavirus assessment methodology in municipal waste, developed by the AUTh team, streamlines the virus genome concentration measurements based on 24 environmental factors, which may alter the results of the measurements.
