According to information, the Greek missing person who was wanted in Antioch was found dead by the Turkish rescuers who were searching in the wreckage of the apartment building where the couple was.
According to information from ERT, Turkish rescuers who were searching the wreckage of the apartment building in which the 65-year-old Greek expatriate was located, found his body under tons of cement.
EMAK’s investigations into the missing Greek couple in Antioch stopped a little earlier. As the SKAI correspondent, Manolis Kostidis, reported, they had managed to download a camera, which gave them an image from the couple’s bedroom, but there was no trace.
The EMAK operation in Antioch to locate the Greek couple – 65-year-old Giorgos and 62-year-old Nida Ontour Antipa – had started earlier today.
According to Manolis Kostidis who was at the scene, 23 EMAK men, three rescuers, 2 specially trained dogs, three medical personnel and two special vehicles were operating in the 6-storey apartment building. At about 2 in the afternoon, the Greek firefighters they lowered a camera into the ruins, in order to help in trying to locate people. At the same time, as reported by Manolis Kostidis, it was requested that silence prevail, as the slightest sound through the ruins can help.
The Greek interlocutors were waiting for their Turkish colleagues to finish the search in a neighboring building before they could start the search for the couple themselves.
Earlier, speaking to SKAI from Antioch, Professor Ev. Lekkas said that they could not find the exact location of the missing as “those building blocks (where they lived) have completely collapsed and we cannot find streets, numbers, etc.”
Last night, members of the 2nd EMAK from Thessaloniki carried out, in deviation from the protocols, searches with a rescue dog in the apartment building where the two Greeks lived, while exceptionally today the Greek EMAK made a request to operate at the specific point and got the ” green light.
“This morning, an exceptional request was made by the Greek mission to allow us to do an evacuation in this building, a six-story building where each floor has two apartments. The green light was given and the Greek mission left for the spot, in the central part of Hatay, with a reinforced force,” said the press representative of the Fire Brigade, incendiary, Giannis Artopaios, to the Athenian-Macedonian News Agency.
Earlier, speaking to ERT, he had said that “for us, the fact that they are Greeks signifies something very important and we must for symbolic reasons carry out a search and rescue operation” said the representative of the Fire Department.
