According to ELAS, the arrest is the result of many months of cooperation between the police authorities of Greece and Germany, in cooperation with EUROPOL.
A foreigner, a key member of a ring of forgery and illegal promotion of immigrants, was arrested yesterday in a police operation of the Directorate of Aliens of Attica.
A case was filed against him for forgery, acceptance and distribution of proceeds of crime, facilitating the exit of foreigners who lack legal documents as well as possession of passports and travel documents of third parties.
According to ELAS, the arrest is the result of many months of cooperation between the police authorities of Greece and Germany, in cooperation with EUROPOL.
In particular, in the context of multi-month investigations, it was established that the arrested person had been active in the field of forgery and illegal promotion of immigrants since at least 2021, proceeding to the systematic trafficking, through postal parcels in various European countries, of travel documents of third parties – fake, falsified or genuine.
From his activity, which dates back to at least 2021, he obtained significant financial benefits, as the investigation revealed that he traded identity cards of European countries for the amount of 330 euros each.
Furthermore, the scope of his operation is demonstrated by the number of seized passport-style photographs of third parties, as well as materials such as transparencies with imitation iridescent security features, used in the manufacture of forged documents.
In total, from the house search, 13 identity cards, 8 passports, 8 residence permits, 3 consular visas (VISAs), 2,750 euros, driver’s license, international protection applicant card, transparencies with fake passport security details, postal envelopes and parcel receipts, third party photographs (passport type), UV detection device and micro-materials used in making fake documents and mobile phone.
All the seized travel documents will be sent for laboratory testing to the competent department of the Criminal Investigations Department, while the arrested person, with the case against him, was taken to the competent prosecutor’s office.
As pointed out by ELAS, the whole operation is part of the implementation of the National Business Plan (NES) and the EMPACT program, to combat the illegal trafficking of immigrants.
