A 50-year-old man who terrorized an entire neighborhood in Panorama, Thessaloniki, was sent to prison.
Neighbors testified that the defendant damaged natural gas pipes, electric cables, broke a window, slashed car tires, set fires and generally made their lives “hell” because he had differences with the contractor who sold them the houses where they lived.
The three-judge Criminal Court imposed a total sentence of 4 years in prison without parole.

The court decided that his appeal would not have a suspensive effect on the execution of the sentence, so he was sent to prison.
“In the morning we woke up to the cold. My daughter has a 3 month old baby. It caused damage to the natural gas pipelines. In the last 1.5 years that we have been living in this house, it has been causing damage. My husband and I live on one floor and my daughter and her husband on the other. He threatens us saying: “At night you will leave here”»
“He broke down iron doors with crowbars. His own houses next door are closed. One day, he grabbed the iron gate and threw it into the stream. We saw him on the cameras. Another time he locked the door with a chain and we couldn’t get out. We cut it with a wheel and got out. I wanted to go to church. The houses are bought with loans. We have taken security measures for him. I don’t know why he does all this. It comes in the evening. Another time he broke the cameras. The plot was his, he owned it together with his brother. He has terrorized the whole neighborhood. His brother sold us the apartments. On August 15, he cut PPC cables. Last month he slashed our car tires with a knife. He did the same to the neighbors. Now I believe our lives are in danger. We didn’t know him. It has spoiled the whole quality of our life. He is also accused of setting fire to 4-5 cars” the first witness testified.
Her daughter reported the following: “Since May 2021 when we bought the houses, he has been threatening us. He has flooded our house twice because he broke the water pipes. He came with a hammer and broke the windows of the house while also removing the electrical panel. He had also broken the natural gas pipes. I have a 3 month old baby. We didn’t have hot water, I couldn’t bathe the little one. I could hear the noise but I did not dare to leave the house. A week before I gave birth he locked us in the house. The whole neighborhood is trampling. It has caused damages of over 20,000 euros. I can’t leave my house. He is constantly trampling on court decisions. The only way to calm down, only if he stays in jail“.
The former’s husband testified that: “He wants us to leave our homes. could explosion when it damaged the natural gas pipes. We are in danger! It always comes with a bag full of tools. We are afraid to take our daughter for a walk in the yard“.
Another neighbor testified as a witness. “On the cameras, I saw him break. He blew out the tires on my car and my wife, who is very scared. One day he said to me: “You too are conspiring to take my property.” He has burned two cars. Everyone has cameras. I don’t know where he liveshe pointed out.
Another owner of an adjacent house testified that: “I have been living there since 2011. I saw my car’s tires slashed on four other cars as well. At 2.40 the cameras “caught” him. A total of six cars have been burned in the neighborhood. We have two children. We are afraid. We bought the house from a contractor. We put cameras in all the houses. I don’t know this man’s motive. He had a rivalry with the contractor and feels we have trespassed on his property».
The wife of the former emphasized that “if he is released, I will not sleep at night. I’ll watch the cameras. It has caused a lot of trouble over the years. It has many courts. The contractor had indicated to me that he was having problems with the landlord. We are six families. He has a problem with those who live on the block and with the contractor».
“Terror is the only word that can describe the feelings of my family and neighbors. Every time I meet him, he has blankets with him. It does not enter into a dialogue process” noted another witness and addressing the judges said: “You have the power of law. Give us our security».
The police officer of the Extortion Department reported that: “We arrested him in Aristotelous Square. He was telling us: “You are getting orders from judges to take my property.” He threatens us saying: “Look what will happen to you when I come out”. He says that they have wronged him and that they will take his property».
“Let’s finish because we have other things to do” said the defendant before starting his statement.
When given the opportunity to apologize, he was asked and replied that he was not working.
“We have a 15-year dispute with the contractor for the plot we had given compensation for. All buyers in the complex have friendly family relations with the contractor. I broke the window. The building is registered as arbitrary, windows must be installed. I broke the cameras because they didn’t ask me and put them in to see my doorhe pointed out.
