New digital campaign of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection

A new digital campaign, with two fully accessible videos that inform about the operation and importance of the 112 service in emergency situations and incidents, is being launched by the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection on the occasion of today’s European Day for 112.

As stated in a statement, the equal access of everyone without exception to valid information and self-protection instructions against risks and natural disasters is a top priority for the ministry.

“In this context, the videos of the campaign were designed and implemented based on the requirements of the time, but also the special characteristics of many population groups, so that they get to know better how the incoming and outgoing part of the Emergency Communications – 112 service works”, it is pointed out in the announcement of the ministry.

As far as the incoming leg is concerned, 112 is the single number that we can call in an emergency when we need urgent help, wherever we are in Greece and the EU.

As far as the outgoing leg is concerned, 112 alerts us in cases where there is a danger or emergency situation near the area we are in, so that we can take self-protection measures or take some action to stay safe.

“112 is the number that is next to the citizen in every emergency situation. An extremely useful tool for Civil Protection, operating 24/7 to alert/inform, prevent and prepare citizens for potential risks from severe weather, natural or technological disasters and emergencies situations that threaten human life”, said among others the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Christos Stylianidis on the occasion of the European Day for 112 and the new campaign of the ministry.

As he pointed out, the importance of 112 is twofold, as it not only allows citizens to be informed immediately, but at the same time it acts as a connecting link between citizens who need immediate help and the emergency response services of our country. “Thus creating a strengthened framework for interoperability and increasing the effectiveness of the Civil Protection Mechanism,” he noted and added:

“Now, 112 becomes an even more valuable tool, as the risks and challenges arising from the new reality of the climate crisis become more frequent, more intense, affecting every aspect of our daily lives.”

“In this context, at the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, we work on a daily basis to upgrade the operation and efficiency of 112, with one goal: strengthening resilience and safeguarding the most valuable commodity, human life. Caring for all citizens without exception, without discrimination”, Mr. Stylianidis concluded.
