They continue at an intensive pace investigations to ascertain the exact circumstances under which the shooting incident took place, early Tuesday afternoon in the Gazi area of ​​the Municipality of Malevizio, in Heraklion.

Result of the episode was three people were injured. The 35-year-old man who the police tried to arrest, the 36-year-old Heraklion security officer and a 22-year-old man, who – according to the official statement of the Hellenic Army – was injured by the 35-year-old’s pistol.

According to the information, on Tuesday night police officers proceeded to arrest of the 35-year-old’s wife, which is expected to be taken to the Prosecutor today.

Police circles but also eyewitnesses, report that everything started while the 35-year-old was under discreet surveillance by a group of Heraklion Security Police officers (who were wearing civilian clothes). The 35-year-old at some point parked his jeep at a spot in the heart of Gazi, in order – as it is assumed – to get coffee from an adjacent cafe.

At that point the 36-year-old policeman got out of the Security car, which had conventional number plates, and approaching the offender’s vehicleallegedly yelled “police” at him.
The same sources of information as well as eyewitnesses claim that upon hearing the word police, the 35-year-old man – without getting out of his car – took out a 40-gauge pistol that he had with him and shot the policeman almost point-blank!
He continued to shoot in his attempt to escape, while the police returned fire.

Also, eyewitnesses they report that the 35-year-old, after parking his vehicle on the side of the road heading from Gazi to Heraklion, got out and headed to the opposite side, where the cafe was located.

At that point, the policemen – whose farm vehicle was stopped just two places above the wanted man – shouted at him “Stand there police”. Then he, always according to the same testimonies astarted shooting and tried to escape towards the side of the church of Agios Nikolaos. The police returned fire and panic prevailed in the area.

As it became known, bullets fell in parts of the cafeteria, in a residence located above the specific store, but also in the windows of at least two adjacent stores.
