Ton Sunday February 19, from the 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., at the Stray Animal Shelter of the Municipality of Sparta, in Agia Kyriaki, celebrate a year with open locks. A year to the day Save A Greek Stray broke the locks and then the Zero Stray Pawject “came to help us reach the rescue of hundreds of creatures”.

In the relevant announcement it is stated that “Sparti’s dogs for many years lived in hell, entering the municipality’s kennels and almost never coming out. With the assistance of animal welfare associations and volunteers from all over the country, the prime minister’s office and all those who responsibly took on a little Spartan, we managed to reach the adoption of more than 500 animals both from the former hellholes and from the streets of our region, but also to a dignified life now 145 dogs inside the shelter of Agia Kyriaki. No animal lives chained to a garbage can, no animal lives in its own feces, no animal goes fasting, no animal goes sick, no animal goes helpless, at least to our knowledge.

So we invite you to a day of celebration but also a reminder because we must not forget the hell that some people have made for these animals. We want to believe that the extreme cover-up practices that we have lived through for years and that led to the shameful images in February 2022 have remains forever in the past and our Municipality has definitively changed the page. We ask you to come and give a caress to our dogs, those dogs who lived through hell and remain in their place of witness but at least with us now who are trying as much as we can for the best. We owe it to them. 143 little spartans are waiting for you to love and help them. A bazaar and a big celebration for their rescue will be held at the shelter. A party dedicated to our little heroes who survived such adverse conditions and continue to trust people.”
