“We had a complaint two days ago from the Child Protection Officer, who informed us about a structure in Northern Greece that there is a complaint that the nurse seems to be giving primary school children herbal gels, without any agreement or any recommendation, so that they they are calmer, have less worries and sleep more easily at night” said the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Domna Michailidou, to ERT, confirming what has come to light about this strange case.

The Deputy Minister of Labor revealed that after the Sworn Administrative Examination at the institution for children “it was found that the pharmacy of the structure is missing quite a few of the psychotropic drugs“, so as he said “now the issue is twofold».

According to what he mentioned, the case has already gone to the Prosecutor’s Office, while now the issue is why this particular nurse gave the vegetable gels to primary school children and why dozens of pills are missing.

“Where and how were the dozens of missing pills administered?” is the big question of Mrs. Michailidou, who revealed that in the structure there are only two recorded administrations of psychiatric drugs that require a doctor’s prescription to be administered.

“The matter is with the prosecutor, by our own decision, from the very day. With the meeting of the Board of Directors of the Structure, the contract of the nurse, who no longer works in the structure, was terminatedMrs. Michailidou noted.

The nurse has a clean criminal record

As the deputy minister pointed out now, to work in a care structure for children and vulnerable people, you must have the self-evident, i.e. clean criminal record to be hired.

“This nurse had a clean criminal record. He had already submitted it to the structure of course and had been hired based on it. The new rule that we put in place and applies from this year is the annual renewal of the psychiatric or psychological report of every person who works in these structures. Such a thing does not exist yet. It will start to exist from May».

Speaking about this strange case in Greek history, he clarified that from the investigations so far, the administration of the herbal preparations that caused sleepiness in the children, concerns two children in the first phase.

“Until we get the results of the Sworn Administrative Examination it appears to be two children, for about a month“, Mrs. Michailidou pointed out.
