Coins from the Archaic, Classical and Hellenistic periods were in the possession of the androgynous man, who was arrested at an archaeological site in Drama, after using information from the Department of Cultural Heritage and Antiquities of the Directorate of Security of Thessaloniki.

According to the Police, the 73-year-old man was exploring the ground at the archaeological site using a metal detector and a digging tool, while his 68-year-old wife was also at the scene. A case was filed against them for violation of antiquities protection legislation.

After an investigation, two silver and eight copper coins were confiscated from the man’s possession and his home, which, according to an archaeologist of the Antiquities Authority of Serres, fall under the protective provisions of the relevant legislation and date from the 6th century BC . up to the 1st century BC. Four original books, two photocopies of books and a number of photocopies referring to ancient coins were also seized.
