A Ryanair flight from Stockholm to Thessaloniki on Friday afternoon turned into an adventure when a passenger suffered a setback, the plane panicked and the pilot searched over Poland for an airport to make an emergency landing.

The weather was not an ally, the low cloud cover did not allow the landing in Gstaad and finally it took place in Warsaw, where an ambulance took the passenger, who had been given first aid, inside the plane, by three medical passengers of the flight.

Finally, the plane that left Stockholm at 18.25 and was supposed to arrive in Thessaloniki after almost 3 hours, arrived around midnight, with the discomfort and anxiety painted on the faces of the passengers.

As a passenger of the flight described to Voria.gr, everything started about 1.5 hours after the flight departed from Stockholm and while the journey was going smoothly.

“A lady from the middle of the plane jumped up and started screaming. She was upset and was asking for help in Greek, repeatedly saying “My Virgin Mary, My Virgin Mary, My Virgin Mary”. We were scared and at first we didn’t understand what happened. A passenger got stuck and there was a lot of disruption. The crew mobilized immediately and requested medical assistance. There were three doctors on the flight who immediately rushed over the passenger, while there was also a defibrillator. The pilot informed us that he will make an emergency landing,” a passenger on this flight tells voria.gr.

The aircraft proceeded to the nearest airport which was that of Gstaad in Poland. The weather was unsettled with low clouds. Two landing attempts were made but were unsuccessful.

After consultation with the Polish authorities the flight continued to Warsaw. Even there, however, the first attempt was not successful. Inside the aircraft, the anxiety and fear continued. All the passengers, mostly Greeks, remained silent in their seats.

Finally, with the second attempt, the pilot managed to land the plane in Warsaw, where a large operation by the authorities had been set up to receive the sick passenger. Doctors and nurses entered the aircraft and took him on a stretcher, while an ambulance then took him to the hospital.

A short time later the aircraft took off and continued its journey to Thessaloniki, where it arrived around midnight.
