The allegations of the defendants to the police authorities regarding the murder of 19-year-old Alkis Kampanos immediately after their arrest, he testified today before the Mixed Jury Court of Thessaloniki, where the case is being heard, another police officer of the Life Crimes Unit.

As the witness said, after the arrest of the first accused, the warrants were issued for the others except for the last one, whose details were not yet known. He added that on the 6th of the month, all but two people were arrested.

“Him secondly we spotted him coming out of his house and he resisted arrest. He said that he participated in the incident, that he had a household knife with him, with which he injured himself, but he said that he did not hit the child who died,” noted the witness.

Referring to third defendant he emphasized that he was also the one who said the most to the Service. “He admitted that he was among the people but that he did not take part. He said that the incident in Oreokastro was the reason, as a reprisal. He described how they got together at the link and started making phone calls. Regarding the first accused, he said that he commanded the young people, while he pointed out that most of them did not know the 12th grade”, the witness emphasized.

“According to what the defendant himself said, everyone knew where to sit in each car and it was based on each other’s acquaintances. Defendant testified that they strolled through the alleys and avoided going through the stadium. They went down and asked the children what team they were, they said Aris. Then there was an attack. The individual said he was in the car but was afraid to go,” the police officer noted and added that the defendant did not say which of his co-accused hit the victims.

The police witness also testified where and how the others were arrested defendants, noting that one even said “I wasn’t there. You brought the wrong person.”

He also stated that most were negative, while those who admitted their presence at the scene denied participation in the attack.

“Others also admitted the weapons but emphasized that they did not use them. Everyone knew what item they would take with them. They didn’t say to each other take this or that. The fact that Alki’s friend is alive is largely due to the intervention of EKAV rescuers,” said the police officer in his testimony, estimating that the defendants did not simply want to terrorize the victims.

The witness told the court what appeared to be the relationships between the accused, while referring to the 12th, who surrendered on February 14 after all the others had been arrested, he said he claimed to know only one person with whom they were hanging out.

“The particular defendant said that with the advice of his friend, they got into the car and took the other people he does not know. He pointed out that he saw the other vehicles stop and instinctively swerved. When the three left his car he said he closed the doors and the trunk and left waiting for them downstairs. That is, it never came down. The defendant stated where the rest of the items were thrown and claimed that the next day his friend went to his house and told him that one of the children who had been attacked had died. According to what he says, he is not organized, but he has been accused of a robbery related to fans,” the witness added.

How the first defendant broke

The police witness referred to the first person arrested.

He noted that at first he didn’t say anything, however when he was sentenced to Autoforo and was alone for days, he started to change his attitude. “The climate from the media was also negative and the highlight was the statement by a PAOK executive who called those who participated in the attack “animals” and that they do not belong to the team’s family.

“They have not realized what has happened”

The witness added that no one admitted to hitting Alki, while only two or three claim to have hit his friend.

He also said that no one had realized what had happened and claimed that when a friend of one visited the detention center, he shouted “hold on tight”. The witness claimed that some of the defendants started shouting PAOK slogans, with their lawyers however protesting stating that no one has access to the courts.

The tensions were not lacking today either, with Alexis Kouya turning against the 12th accused shouting “why are you looking at me like that?”.

The trial continues.
