The trial of the 12 defendants for the murder of Alkis Kampanos will continue on March 2
With questions from the defense attorneys to the police witness of the Crimes Against Life Department of Thessaloniki will continue on March 2 the trial of the 12 accused for the murder of Alkis Kampanos and the injury of his two friends, after the fierce fan attack they received, in the early hours of February 1, 2022, in the area of ​​Harilaou.
Depositing since the morning, the particular one police officer was mentioned in the chronicle of the 12 arreststhe first reactions and positions conveyed by the accused to the police regarding the degree of their involvement in the murderous episode, but also what preceded the previous evening, when they began to arrive at the central association of PAOK fans, from where they moved in a procession of three cars towards the scene of the crime.
He spoke of an “organized” attack, which was a product “retaliatory” for a previous fan incident in the area of ​​Oreokastro where “Arians chased PAOK fans”. Relying on the first part of their testimony in the version brought to his service by the third defendant (“he mentioned the most”), the witness named the first person arrested at the time as the person who made the decision to launch the attack. “He had a leading role in the association […] he commanded the younger ages” he characteristically noted, referring to the specific person.
“Their target was fans of Mars […] They went to do harm,” the witness said in another part of his testimony, naming the persons who were holding the sickle, the karabit, the wooden pickaxe and a knife which, however, was not found during the police investigations. In addition, he named, based on the videos that came into his service’s possession, the four people who “left last above ‘Alki'”.
When he was asked to answer the prosecutor’s question about who caused the blows to the 19-year-old ‘Alkis based on what they initially conveyed to the police, he replied that no one admitted to hitting him. “Those who admitted to hitting said they hit his friend,” he noted.
“Alkis tried to defend himself”
Referred to in genetic material (blood) of Moose which was detected in the sickle and specifically on its folding “knob”, the witness said that the 19-year-old “tried to defend himself”. As for his friend Alkis, who was more seriously injured than the second injured young man, he testified that he survived thanks to the immediate response of the EMS, “otherwise he too might have had a fatal outcome”.
The same witness denied the fourth defendant’s claim that he chased Alki’s two friends and then returned to the car, pointing out – based on the video footage – that after the chase he returned to the scene of the murder and then moved towards the vehicle.
Called to refer to the two cuffs (large knives) that were found near the scene of the murder and did not appear to be connected to the perpetrators, he testified that they belonged to the people who as soon as they realized the incident moved towards the scene of the attack, forcing the defendants to they run away (as was also seen on video). “Possibly we had victims on both sides,” said the policeman, referring to the possibility of a fight between them.
The detention center incident
When asked whether the defendants showed remorse, the police officer replied as follows: “No one convinced me that he showed remorse. They said some words, to say them”, while he brought to the court an incident that took place twenty days after the murder during their detention in the detention centers of the General Police Directorate of Thessaloniki.
As the witness mentioned, a friend of the defendant had brought some clothes and when he left he shouted “hold on tight”. “Then the defendants started shouting PAOK slogans. There was a commotion for about ten minutes until they stopped,” said the policeman describing the incident.
The trial was adjourned due to running out of time and will resume on 2/3 with the testimony of the same witness. Afterwards, it is planned to examine rescuers and a doctor of the EKAB who were called to go to the scene of the crime.
