In a controlled structure of Samos, 17 migrants who were freed in the morning hours today by officers of the Port Authority from a rocky point near Cape Leek.

Immigrants, which includes an infant and five children, four women including one pregnant and seven men, had been transported to the site by motor boat. Two of the migrants were spotted in the wider land area and arrested by police officers, while one 41 years old citizen of Turkey referred to as o boat operator and migrant smuggler.

Commenting on the news rescue operation of the executives of the Port Authority of Samos, the Minister of Shipping and Island Policy Mr. Yiannis Plakiotakis underlined the following:The officers of the Coast Guard – Hellenic Coast Guard, once again proved that their primary concern is the protection of human life, by rescuing our fellow human beings, who were abandoned by the criminal trafficking rings originating from Turkey, helpless in Samos».
