On Friday 17/02/2023 at 16:30 the Federal game warden of the 2nd KOA, Ilias Tsakumakis, in an appeal for an injured bird, moved to the Potokaki area in Samos and found the owl (Bubo bubo) which had a small wound on the wing and he looked dazed.

Probably he did not calculate during his flight correctly and crashed into a fence.

The owl is a large glaucous bird, a permanent resident of mountains and forests mainly with rocks and old trees. It has a scattered distribution although it is generally uncommon.

It is active at night and dusk while during the day it roosts in dense trees or rock cavities. Despite its size and formidable claws it is generally a calm bird compared to other species of the family.

In Greece it is found on a few islands such as Samos, Lesbos etc.

A month ago, the Gamekeeper had also freed a groomer. After collecting the injured animal and after communication, it was delivered for immediate care to the Archipelagos Institute (Marine Protection Institute) which has its facilities on the island.
