And millions of Russian citizens only want to live in peace with their neighbors… they are not the enemy. This war was never a necessity. It’s a tragedy” underlined.

Joe Biden emphasized in his speech that “when Putin ordered his tanks to invade Ukraine, he thought that we would step aside, but he was wrong. Democracy was too strong and, instead of an easy victory, Putin retreated, with Russian forces in disarray.”
“Putin thought that NATO would ‘break’ and divide, but instead NATO is more united than ever,” the US president pointed out. He noted that NATO will not split, and support for Ukraine will not wane. “Barbarism will never destroy the will of the free, and Ukraine will never be a victory for Russia.”
“The principles of peace were in danger of being destroyed by Putin’s invasion of Ukraine,” the US president said. Nations worldwide refuse “to accept a world ruled by fear and violence,” he noted.
“He found himself fighting a nation led by a man whose courage they would be forged in fire and steel – President Zelensky,” he said, saying that Putin is now faced with something he probably didn’t think would exist a year earlier. “The world’s democracies have gotten stronger, not weaker, but the world’s autocrats have gotten weaker, not stronger.”
“Ukraine is still independent and free a year after Putin’s invasion. The flag of Ukraine flies proudly, and Ukraine is still an independent republic. We won’t get tired to support Ukraine”.
Biden also said that Poland is one of the great allies of the US, and thanked Polish President Andrzej Duda for welcoming him back to the country.
