A rendezvous at the beautiful Philopappos Hill was once again this year hundreds of Athenians, who celebrated Koulouma by flying colorful kites in the Attic sky, having a picnic with Lenten dishes and participating in a large traditional feast organized by the Municipality of Athens.

Young and old, climbed early in the morning to the emblematic hill of the capital, where they had the opportunity to spend a few carefree hours, celebrating Koulouma with lots of fun, music and dance.

The “curtain” opened with the melodies of the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Athens, while Gogo Tsamba took the baton.

The popular singer of folk traditional songs, stirred up the crowd, seducing young and old alike to a genuine Greek feast.

From the celebration, there was no shortage of Lenten dishes, such as the traditional lagana, bean salad and halva, which were offered to those who were there.

The Mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis, attended the celebration with his family, exchanged wishes with the citizens and took pictures with them.

In his statement, he said:

“We thank the Athenians who came today with their children to the Hill of Filopappos and became part of this authentic celebration which was curated with special care by the Municipality of Athens. We flew the kites high and had traditional fun, as required by Clean Monday. Happy Lent to one and all!”
