For strong earthquakes in Greece as well, even 6 Richter warned the seismologist Gerasimos Papadopoulos expressing at the same time the concerns of seismologists about the displacement of earthquakes to the south from the epicenter of the fault that caused the deadly earthquake of February 6 in Turkey.

“The truth is that this region of the Eastern Mediterranean, Turkey-Syria, is characterized by the presence of three very large faults. And when we say very large, each of them is hundreds of kilometers long, such as the East Anatolia fault, which was activated a few weeks ago with the two very large earthquakes and all those that have followed.” he said while speaking to ERT.

“Nature has its own laws. Sooner or later he will make the sixes again in Greece. Let us be under no illusions about it.” he added.

According to him, in fact, we should be vigilant.

Mr. Papadopoulos also responded to whether there is a risk of the earthquakes shifting to the south, towards Cyprus:

“At the end of the rift on the border of Turkey and Syria, but also very close to Cyprus, there was a very strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 Richter, which completed the destruction, in the area south of Antioch. This is not something that goes out of the normal and expected limits. On the contrary, it is within expectations.”
