“We are going out of business. The crane operators cannot help anymore, they have been working since the morning and we must definitely have the help of the cranes” emphasized Evangelos Vamvakas
“It was a horror, that says it all I think… I don’t want to go into details but it was truly a horror. I have never experienced anything like this before” Evangelos Vamvakas, a member of the Greek Rescue Team of Magnesia, which together with the fire department has carried out six rescues, told SKAI about what he saw after the deadly train collision in Tempi.
“Colleagues who have experienced the tragedy of Yakovlev (crash in 1997 in the Pieria Mountains) and of the C-130 (crash in 1991) in Othry I was told was similar to these two events” he said.
“We are going out of business. The crane operators can no longer help, they have been operating since morning and we absolutely must have the help of the cranes” Evangelos Vamvakas also emphasized.
Note that “I avoided going near the relatives who were there because I didn’t want to get emotionally involved. I had to focus on what we were doing.”
Make it clear that “our work is not done yet, there is a shapeless mass behind the number 3 wagon that needs to be checked and the large pieces hauled out with the cranes.”
“For the rear wagons, everything that had to be done was done since last night by the colleagues of EOD Larisa” explained Mr. Vamvakas.
