The testimony of the handball referee is shocking Apostolos Vengeltzikiswho managed to survive the collision of the two trains in Tempe:

“I was returning from Athens, I was in the third carriage that was hanging in the air. When braking we were all thrown from the seats and in the collision everything inside was broken and people were crushed…

On one side, the windows were broken and the wagon that was the canteen was burning 2 meters away and sparks were flying and we were having to breathe…

We found an iron, broke the glass on the other side and jumped into the gap in the grass…

Not everyone lived after the crash in the wagon, there were families crying and shouting, old people and most of them were around 25…

Those of us who managed to get off the train lived miraculously.

Shocking images both inside the wagon and outside on the grass, where people were hurled…

I got hit in the head, arms and legs and in braking and in the crash, but all the tests I took at AHEPA came out fine.

The doctors told me on Monday to go for tests again.

I am fine and I thank God that I survived this tragic accident.

Also, we lost everything. We left all our things on the train and from Tempi we were taken by buses, probably private ones, to the OSE in Thessaloniki and from there by ambulance to AHEPA.

I still haven’t recovered from the shock.

Our wagon was cut in two.

They broke everything inside, it had dead people and we broke the glass with an iron and jumped on the grass in the gap

On one side a wagon was burning and on the other we broke the mosque and jumped down.”
