The NSS is under great pressure with the onset of the “Omicron” mutation, while the diagnostic tests performed in the last days of the holidays betray the huge dispersion of cases. At the General Hospital of Thessaloniki “Ippokratio” from the 350 rapid tests that were done yesterday, 90 came out positive. It is indicative that a 36-year-old midwife and her premature baby were intubated, while a total of 8 children are being treated for coronavirus.
“We are under a lot of pressure,” said the representative of the employees of the Hippocratic Hospital of Thessaloniki, George Dontsios, speaking to GRTimes, giving information about the evolution of last night’s duty. Specifically, he stressed that yesterday Sunday (2/1) 205 cases of coronavirus arrived at the hospital and until today at 8:00 am (when the on-call period formally ended) 45 admissions had been made, while another 25 cases were examined as suspects.
At the same time, there was an increase in diagnostic tests during the holidays. As Mr. Dontsios points out in GRTimes, “usually on such a day we had around 100 rapid tests, while yesterday there were 350, of which 90 came out positive.
It is worth noting that during yesterday’s vigil, the doctors had to take a 36-year-old pregnant woman who had just been infected with the coronavirus by caesarean section and intubate both her and her prematurely born baby.
Also, Mr. Dontsios pointed out that eight children are being treated in Ippokratio, two of whom were admitted yesterday, fortunately preventively and with mild symptoms. He added that out of the 28 ICU beds available at the hospital, 26 are occupied, however they may be filled today before noon.
We are under a lot of pressure – We have two years to get licenses
“The diagnostic test teams of EODY should be increased in order to decongest the hospitals”, underlined Mr. Dontsios, while referring to the dramatic working conditions that the medical staff is facing during these critical hours, he said that “we have two years to get licenses, and they started to make the employees ill, without being able to miss their position “.
Finally, Mr. Dontsios expressed the assessment that we will have an increase in the cases of the “Omicron” mutation at the end of the holidays. In fact, as he said, the imprint of mobility due to the festive season will begin to be recorded from next Friday in diagnostic tests.
