Mourning, heartbreak and unspeakable pain today at noon, at the funeral of 28-year-old Dimitris Oikos, the train driver who was off duty but lost his life as a passenger on the fatal passenger train, in the deadly train collision in Tempe.

According to evros-news.gr, in the church of Agia Kyriaki Alexandroupolis where the funeral service was held, the grief-stricken parents Euthymios and Vasiliki, Smaro’s sister, Nikos’ brother who came from the Netherlands, the whole family, relatives, friends and a crowd of people, said a fond farewell to 28-year-old Dimitris, who “left” so unfairly and prematurely.

In the deafening silence of their farewell, with the immense sadness in their eyes and the countless and unanswered “whys”, followed short funerals by the Protosygelos of the Metropolis of Alexandroupolis Irenaios Laftsis, the teacher of the deceased Dimitris and a fellow train driver, who asked to find the real culprits of this mass murder of young people in the vast majority of them children, who took the train because it cost them their lives. The mayor of Alexandroupoli, Yiannis Zamboukis, together with the deputy mayor, Ilias Dasteridis, were among the hundreds of mostly young people who, together with his family, said goodbye to Dimitris. Dozens of wreaths from relatives and friends of the 28-year-old train driver and the Hellenic Train company where he worked.
