Police have launched an investigation into the murder of Pedro Rodríguez Filio, who committed nearly 100 murders and was released after spending 42 years in prison.

Police have launched an investigation into the murder of Pedro Rodríguez Filio, in Mogi das Cruzes, near the Brazilian metropolis.
“The victim was shot and the suspects fled” the Secretariat of Public Security of the State of São Paulo said in a statement.
Filio, also called “Pedrinio the Matador” (a nickname meaning “the butcher Petrakis”) was 68 years old. He was released from prison in 2018 and had told his life story in several media and documentaries. He even started a “career” on YouTube, where he talked about his life, commented on various crimes and warned young people not to engage in criminal acts. On the short video platform Kwai he had become a star, having more than 267,000 subscribers.
Criminologist and author of “Serial Killers: Made in Brazil,” Ilana Casoi, said “Pedrinho” killed people he considered “undesirable” in society – many were gang members or fellow prison inmates. He also said that he had been struck by the cheerfulness, ease of manner and intelligence’ of Philio, whom he had come to know intimately. “In the end, she fascinated people,” Kasoy said in an interview with the newspaper Folha de S. Paulo.
