A black band with the word “Censored” covers a drawing of a penis intertwined with a heart on a pink plate. Next to it is a lighted sign with the name of the place: La Censura.

The address sells crepes in penis and vulva shapes. The bakery opened its doors this Saturday, the 4th, near Rua Augusta, in the central region of São Paulo.

In fact, the cafe was supposed to be called La Putaria, but it had to change its name to La Censura after the publication of a rule by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, in June last year, which determined that products with pornographic content cannot be displayed in shop windows or signs.

The brand was created by the Austrian Rob Kramer and the Brazilian Juliana Lopes in 2021, in Portugal. In the following years, the couple opened branches in Rome, Belo Horizonte and Rio de Janeiro. But it was in this last city that they ran into trouble.

After opening a unit in Ipanema, in May of last year, an association of neighborhood residents filed a complaint about the name of the place. The ministry then determined that the brand sign be removed from stores in the country and that a sign indicating prohibited entry for minors under 18 years old be installed.

“We were taken by surprise. The justification used was that children could not have contact with that content, but all products are consumed immediately. There is no showcase to display”, says Juliana Lopes, one of the owners. “For us it doesn’t make sense. In several sex shop windows, children and adults can see the products.”

In the government agency’s report, the erotic sweets were classified as “free pornography camouflaged as sweets (…), perfect replicas of sexual organs”.

“We sell sweets in a light and fun way”, says Lopes. “They generate curiosity. In Europe, it has always worked very well. We have a shop in Rome, a 30-minute walk from the Vatican, and we have never had any problems.”

The units in Rio de Janeiro and Belo Horizonte still lack the original name on the façade. “The word I heard the most from our followers was censorship. So we made a joke with La Censura as a strategy to keep our activities going.”

The delicacies are prepared with waffle dough in the shape of penises and vulvae and have various fillings and toppings. Called Piroffles and Xoxoffles, the sweets cost from R$25 to R$33.

The sweet called crush has semisweet chocolate and strawberry chocolate coating. The sugar daddy, in the shape of a male organ, is covered in white chocolate and gold spray.

It is also possible to assemble the candy to the customer’s taste. The option with two flavors of chocolate costs R$25 (the Xoxoffles) or R$29 (the Piroffles). The stuffed with Nutella or dulce de leche costs from R$29 to R$33. For another R$3, you can add toppings like whipped cream, coconut and colored sprinkles.

There is also a vegan version of the delicacy, which costs from R$26 to R$29, and another savory one — called mozão (R$26 to R$29), made with mozzarella, ham and oregano. Ice creams, milkshakes and coffees complete the menu.

In addition to offering erotic sweets, the store was also designed to be instagrammable and attract clicks to social networks. The decor is all pink and has neon signs with phrases like “bigger than your boyfriend’s” and “hotter than your ex”.

At the opening of the house, last Saturday, the place already accumulated long lines of people interested in tasting the waffles in the shape of genitals. Lopes says that entry and consumption of the products were already prohibited for minors, even before the impositions of the Ministry of Justice.

“We don’t think that our brand offends anyone. The idea is that it’s a joke. The store is comical. They are sweet”, says the founder.
