The World Organization for Animal Health expresses concern about the spread of the virus – In the latest incident, red foxes were found dead in a French forest
Last month the World Health Organization described the situation with its epidemic as “alarming”. bird flu because outbreaks among birds and mammals have increased. It also said it is reviewing the risk assessment in light of recent developments and after cases of transmission of the virus to humans have been recorded in Cambodia.
In the latest incident, the French authorities detected cases of highly pathogenic bird flu H5N1 in red foxes, northeast of Paris, as announced today by the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH), expressing concern about the spread of this virus in mammals.
Three foxes were found dead in a forest in Mo, near the spot where dead seagulls had been found. One of them was collected and examined, WOAH reported, citing local French authorities.
A cat was infected with this virus in France, at the end of December. It has also been identified in mink in Spainin foxes and otters in Britainin sea lions at Peru and in grizzly bears on USA.
Bird flu swept the world last year and killed more than 200 million birds, sending the price of eggs skyrocketing as well as concerns about the virus spreading to humans.
