The girl “could have been at the point where the highest temperature of 1,100 degrees Celsius developed. I don’t know how many people were at the scene of the big fire and nothing will be found,” said Mrs. Leontari
Coroner Rubini Leontari gave answers to the anxious questions of the relatives of the 57 victims from the collision of the two trains in Tempi to ERT, regarding the way of examining the bodies and the fate of the young girl who is still missing.
As revealed by the head of the Larissa forensic service, two families requested the investigator handling the case to conduct a DNA review on the two remaining bodies kept at the Larissa morgue, a procedure that will take place today, Wednesday, March 8, in the morning.
“There are 29 men, 26 women identified, i.e. with death certificates. He is also an unidentified man because although DNA has been taken, there is no comparative DNA. He was not searched for by anyone,” explained Mrs. Leontari, noting that his body will remain in the cold rooms of the forensic service.
Nothing has been found of the girl
Responding to a question about what might have happened to the student from Larissa who was on the fatal train and has not been located after the searches in the wreckage of the trains, Mrs. Leontari said characteristically: “We would like to have something to give to the relatives them, but nothing has come from this child to us. This means that something has not been detected.”
Explaining what might have happened, he emphasized that “they could have had the misfortune of being at the point in question where the highest temperature of 1,000-1,100 degrees Celsius developed, according to the Fire Department. So it would be very difficult to find anything.”
Regarding the exact number of dead from the train accident, he emphasized that as a service “we have nothing to hide. All the bodies came to the coroner’s office. They have been recorded in detail by all of us and by this echelon as well as by us and they are the ones who say. How many people had the misfortune to be at that point (of the big fire) I don’t know and nothing will be found.”
As stated by Mrs. Leontari, the death of the 57 people was instantaneous. “There were injuries from the collision and injuries from the fire. Each body has its own findings and this will be recorded in detail by the forensic report.”
Other than the 23-year-old’s family, no other family has sought another person as aboard the fatal 62 Intercity train.
