Police measures were draconian yesterday in Athens (and in all major cities) for the Pallaic protest call for the tragedy in Tempi, in which more than 50,000 people, of all ages, participated.

Shortly before the mobilization began, a young police officer, Vangelis Batarlis, uploaded a video on TikTok, in which he expressed his support for the protesters, while calling on them to march peacefully.

“You know we’re 1,000% with you – I wish we as uniformed people could do something similar, but unfortunately you don’t allow us to do that. It is unconstitutional, it is not allowed. Just because we’re not allowed to do something like that doesn’t mean we’re against you,” he says.

The young police officer also calls for peaceful protests.

“Marching peacefully is the best thing for me and well done to you for doing it and you should do it for the children who were lost because they really were lost unjustly.

Going out and burning things or beating up cops I can’t see how it can ease the pain of lost souls. I hope everything goes well,” he concludes.
