Giorgos Zindros was the first to rush to the Larissa station after the train collision – “I discovered it, what can he understand?” – Leaves spikes against the inspector and lays blame also on the driver, who, as he declared, “could have stopped the train right on the keys”
He was the first man to rush to the station office of Larissa, immediately after the tragic accident in Tempe. The Palaiofarsalon station master Giorgos Zindros spoke to SKAI about the situation in which the fatal Larissa station master was, who seemed to have lost it and not realized the magnitude of the disaster.
Giorgos Zindros revealed that the station master of Larissa, being inexperienced and frivolous, as he described him, had lost it and could not function. He also emphasized that he himself discovered what had happened and he notified the experienced stationmaster of Larissa, who had left before the collision.
The experienced station master Palaeofarsalon left spikes against the inspector, saying that he placed a new station master in the post of Larissa.
Mr. Zindros blamed his train driver as well Intercity, who died in the collision. He said he could stop the train and announce that it was going backwards.
Q: You were the first to enter the Larissa station hall after the collision – What did you see and what caused it? Only the inexperience of the station master?
Zindros: “He was frivolous. He was inexperienced. As a person he was good. And he was up for the job, you can’t blame him for being out in the rain. He had one month as a stationmaster. Does it have anything to do with me being 30 years old? Big mistake that the other one left him too. And the inspector let only S. work the night shift, new here. I came at 23:30. I discovered it. What to understand?
He couldn’t understand the magnitude of the destruction, no he hadn’t. He understood very well. After the Fire Department informed him what it was. A train, nothing there missed them. From there. Where he went to make a mistake with the keys there. They backed off a bit (and they say to him) ”why did we back off?” and he doesn’t answer. From there he lost it and from there he forgot the diagonal.
Q: Did you also try to contact the station master – the most experienced of the shift who left earlier? What did he tell you?
Zindros: I took him later, 22:45. I submitted these to the investigator. He told me how much to sit him guarding? The kid was right. To sit down to put the commuter in? If he can’t fit a commuter in…
P. passed thirty trains, guys. What are you doing like this? P. passed him thirty trains. He left a train for S.. A commuter train, Intercity was not covered by P. Intercity was covered by S. it was 23:05 here.
He did not leave him with 15 trains. I had five trains in Paleofarsalo, between 22:00 and 23:00. Inside my station. But I didn’t get up to leave and leave him splattered there to burn him. I had a childish me, with a pad. Contract holders too. But ok I had 5 trains. I didn’t have one or two.
He had two trains. One of the suburban and then came this 62, this infamous one. What a load. 2597 had two trains that had to be pushed aside. Where the other said “why are we backing down”. This train. P. did not sit. P. fought 31 trains all afternoon.
Q: Did the contractor leave with the experienced?
Zindros: The contract worker goes to school at ten o’clock. I can’t understand what they are messing with this kid. Because he writes on the paper (shifts) 14:00 to 23:00. For the childish X., with the pad. He, N. (Inspector) had to distinguish it. 14:00 to 22:00, it is forbidden to write overtime. X. can now chase him N. (Inspector).
Q: How should the driver have reacted?
Zindros: The driver bears the greatest responsibility. For all I know, the train driver could stop the train right on the switches, not even cross. He could make a speech that he is leaving instead. He didn’t… He should have stopped on the diagonal not crossed. Strictly stop diagonally, strictly. The train snaked its way across. Didn’t he realize he went the other way?
