“It’s purely for our dignity. It’s not about the money, it’s about getting 170 euros more” said the actor regarding the mobilizations of the artists
The show “MEGA Stories” with Dora Anagnostopoulou spoke with the actor Vassilis Bisbikis on the occasion of the mobilizations of the artists for the Presidential Decree 85.
Among other things, Vassilis Bispikis said:
“We are reacting for the morality and dignity of the people we studied and spent years in schools to get the actor’s degree and now that thing no longer exists, it becomes a high school paper. On top of that you feel that these people who are responsible for all of this don’t respect you.
As time goes on what we see more and more is that they devalue culture and acting. They can’t even hear you speak. They discredit you and that’s the worst. This is what keeps you behind bars. Occupies and demonstrations are one of the solutions. And the theater to close and the television and the actors to strike. They are solutions. It’s a way to pressure a situation.”
He then emphasized that: “I am a person who has not finished high school, but high school. Through the excellent talents of the Ministry of Culture, I took the exam and went to a private school and got the actor’s degree. I didn’t get into the National team, even though they wanted me as a talent, because I hadn’t finished high school. Now they tell you to have finished, it’s like having a high school diploma. Isn’t that absurd’?
“This job has insecurity anyway… We are fighting for the collective agreements… What thesouls in the public sector? It is purely for our dignity. It is not for money what is done to get 170 euros more. Some people are against you who are waging war on culture and Art. They have a vendetta, a war with us. We will take it to the extreme, with mobilizations, strikes, so that they really listen to us. For me, one suggestion would be that artists should not participate in the Athens Festival. Don’t do it at all. Isn’t it a pain that our degrees are not recognized? We have to put them on a scale. We are claiming something. It is important for young people, they are the future… A sacrifice must be made now” Vassilis Bispikis said finally.
