The Spiliopouleio Hospital “Agia Eleni”, where the first public palliative care structure will be built, was visited today by the Minister of Health Thanos Pleuris.

Along with the establishment, for the first time in our country, of the palliative care service provision system, the Ministry of Health is now recommending the National Registry of palliative care patients.

The aim is to ensure and improve the quality of life of patients suffering from a life-threatening disease or a chronic progressive disease, by creating an integrated system of providing palliative care.

This new system, combined with the other existing structures of the National Health System, focuses and serves the specialized needs of patients and their families.

Health Minister Thanos Pleuris stated that “our country has acquired a framework for palliative care and now it must also acquire the structures. We want Spiliopouleio “Agia Eleni” to be the first public structure for palliative care, so that our people can have the help they need when they are in a very difficult situation.

Palliative care is available to over 300,000 people. Some private structures have already been developed. Now the framework is being created to expand it to all levels. Spiliopouleio will be a model in the process, a palliative care unit”.
