According to the First State Stage announcement, the building was inspected by theater officials and found to be undamaged.
Today (23/3), following the decision of the Coordinating Committee of Students of Drama Schools, the occupation of the Chiller building ended, with this development being a trigger for the immediate restart of the performances of the National Theater and for the smooth re-operation of the administrative and technical project in the building. The days and times of the resumption of the shows have already been announced.
According to the announcement of the first state stage, the building was inspected by the theater officials and it was found that no damages have been caused.
“Although the suspension of its activity has been painful, the National Theater treats with respect (as it was repeatedly expressed in its public announcements from 28.12.2022, 09.02.2023 and 24.02.2023) the fair requests for the grading of artistic education, and will continue to contribute programmatically to the necessary institutional consultation for its legalization” state the artistic director in their announcement, Giannis Moschos and the board of the National Theater. At the same time, they invite the competent bodies to examine any reasonable request that can improve the study conditions, and provide support services to the students. For these issues, as they note, the dialogue with the Student Association of the Drama School of the National Theater will continue.
At the same time, they report that “contrary to the decisions of the student coordinating bodies that led to the resolution of the occupations of the Drama School and the Chiller building, the continuation of the occupation of the REX building by persons who are not in any relationship with the National Theater it has no moral legitimacy or practical effectiveness in asserting demands of the artistic community’.
“We firmly believe that the open National Theater is a one-way street so that it continues to carry out its cultural mission, but also contributes to the success of these requests” they emphasize in their announcement and call on those who remain in the REX building to immediately resolve the occupation and on Monday 27/3 08:00 to hand over- receipt of the building to the officials of the National Theatre. In another case, as they state, the Theater Management will be forced to stop the administrative support of the building (with the withdrawal, among other things, of the security personnel), and to undertake any other necessary legal action for the return of the building to its intended function.
