The mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis, was at the new playground in Avdi Square, in Metaxourgeio, from where he spoke on Sunday morning with Giorgos Autias on the show Kalimera on SKAI.

“This is the 31st playground we built in Metaxourgeio” said Mr. Bakoyannis and continued by saying that he has set a goal for every child in the Municipality of Athens to have a playground within a 10-minute walk.

This new playground in Avdi square was created in collaboration with the Onassis Foundation and has safe spaces for children of all ages.

“We aim to build 10 new playgrounds a year, we will exceed 40 by the end of the year” said the mayor of Athens and added that “at the same time we are working on the stadiums, the green spaces, the pocket parks, we are working on all the little ones who do the big”.

Asked about yesterday’s Erdogan letter, Mr. Bakoyiannis commented that “it is a first step, but let’s not make a big deal out of the small, it is a window of opportunity that should not be closed. Attention and seriousness and consistency of words and works are needed. I think that’s where the government is now.”

And he continued: “Yes, let’s have the discussion, but by clarifying our own position that identifies International Law and how we can move forward avoiding the mistakes of the past.”

“I keep a small basket, let’s not get carried away by the developments” he noted.
