Spiral that systematically stole power cables and various metal objects from country houses and farms, in the area of ​​Megara, was dismantled by the local Security Department.

In particular, a 15-year-old and a 41-year-old, who are relatives, were arrested yesterday in Megara, accused of being members of the criminal group, while a 17-year-old has been identified and is being sought.

A case file was filed against them for the case-by-case offenses of forming a gang, distinguished cases of theft by complicity and by continuation, neglecting the supervision of a minor and not issuing police identification.

According to ELAS, three or four members of the spiral, moving in a car owned by their relatives, were going to Megara, pretending to be itinerant old men.

In this way they observed their prospective targets, without drawing attention, while locating the prey they were looking for, but also seeing houses that were not occupied.

The defendants removed power cables, electrical installation components, copper pipes, all kinds of metal objects, tools, agricultural components, air conditioners and other electrical appliances.

The alleged perpetrators then trafficked their loot to recycling companies scrap metal and from their sale they directly obtained illegal profits.

It is noted that in the settlement where the gang members lived, they used a specific space for burning the cables in order to isolate the copper they containedwith the aim of funneling it to junkyards, so they can make extra profits.

The defendants were arrested in a car carrying a load of metal objects, heading to a scrap company, having previously left the settlement of Vlycho Megaron. They immediately seized and confiscated the cargo and the car. At the same time, various tools, metal objects and electrical devices were confiscated from the search carried out at their house.

From the preliminary investigation of the Megareon Security Department, 31 cases of theft were discovered.

The arrested were taken to the Criminal Prosecutor of Athens.
