The 67-year-old Greek woman Artemis Papacostidou, the “Lady of the Evros”, has lived in this particular part of the Evros Delta since she was 25 and declares that she is particularly happy that she now has a communication technology.

She acquired a satellite phone and Internet, which will allow her to communicate not only with her two daughters, but also with the whole world as well as to “open Instagram…” to share her life in the far corner of Greece.

“I feel very good to be in this place in Greece and much better today since they honored me with their presence and with the nice satellite antenna they put up and so I am very happy,” he said speaking to the APE MPE radio station, “Agency 104.9 FM”, about the peculiarities of her special life.

“Now I will be able to communicate with my children, with my friends and with the whole world. Until today I was thinking about not running out of cards and losing our leftovers…” explains Mrs. Papakostidou who has made this place her home together with her “rock”, as she calls him, her husband Nikos Papakostidis.

The “Lady of Evros” emphatically notes that she does not feel afraid of living on the edge of the border while declaring that she is proud to have lived for so many years in this particular corner of Greece and “raises the Greek flag” two kilometers from neighboring Turkey above the roof of the hut .

“We have just connected the satellite phone of Mrs. Artemis Papakostidou, which will now have voice communication as well as Instagram and access to social media, she will be in contact with anyone who wants to live. Until today Mrs. Artemis communicated through Turkey as the mobile phone providers, as happens in uncritical places, have not installed transmitters and it is very difficult to communicate. In fact, as was explained to her, she would have to pay a few thousand euros to have communication in her hut”, says Mr. Christodoulos Protopapas, managing director of Hellas Sat, to “FM 104.9 Agency”, speaking from the couple’s yard.

“For us, the Evrites or those who are in Kastellorizo, it is not surprising that we are acrites on the borders of Greece. Everyone (including those who live in these corners of Greece) does not feel fear. All of us who live here, it is our homeland and we are proud to be here. All we want is the state next to us”, added from her side and from her new satellite phone Mrs. Artemis, the “Lady of Evros” of Greece.
