The Stelios Hatziioannou Charitable Foundation is again standing by the side of people experiencing pain, as in 2018 after the unspeakable tragedy in Mati, but also more recently, with the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria and with the feeding orders worth 300,000 euros for 3,000 nurses , these everyday heroes of our lives who are on the front lines of defending public health in the age of Covid.
The tragic train collision in Tempi on March 1, 2023 is an event that shocked and continues to shock the whole of Greece. For the Stelios Hatziioannou Charitable Foundation, to proceed with another movement of humanity and social solidarity was almost self-evident. Constantly watching the developments with anxiety and wanting to practically stand by the tragic families of the dead, he announced a few days ago an immediate monetary donation of 10,000 euros for the immediate needs of the closest relatives of our fellow human beings, who were lost so unjustly.
Specifically, the Stelios Hatziioannou Charitable Foundation provides a one-off financial aid of 10,000 euros by bank deposit into the account of the closest relative of each deceased, up to the second degree alive, following a written application accompanied by the appropriate supporting documents. More information about the supporting documents and the application process is available for those interested on the steliosfoundation.gr website.
The application process has already started and will last until Tuesday, May 2, 2023. Payments will be made by bank transfer to the bank account of the next of kin and will be completed by May 15, 2023, for those who have successfully completed the application. .
This is a small act of support for these people, who lost their own in the tragic accident in Tempe.
Regarding this new initiative of his Foundation, Mr. Stelios Hatziioannou said: “The tragic train accident in Tempi filled us with unspeakable sadness. I would like to wish my condolences to the families of the deceased and a speedy recovery to the injured. I know very well that the loss of human life cannot be replaced by anything. However, we want to stand by the families of the deceased, offering immediate financial assistance to their relatives as a minimum support at this difficult time.”
This act of humanity by Stelios Hatziioannou and his Foundation is not the only one, given that the resourceful businessman has carried out many social solidarity actions in various fields.
After all, the foundation offers to society in the following ways:
1. Helping our fellow citizens in Greece and Cyprus with the program – food from the heart
This program, which started in 2013, offers every day – without any discrimination – snacks to our fellow human beings who need them. On average, food is given to 200,000 people who come every day to the distribution centers in Greece and Cyprus.
2. Promotion of lasting peace and cooperation between the 2 communities on the island of Cyprus
Each year several awards are offered to teams that work together and are made up of at least one Turkish Cypriot and one Greek Cypriot working together on the island. Each winning team is awarded a cash prize.
3. Monetary donations to other charities and organizations active in a wide range of activities
In the event of a major disaster, additional funds are made available for relief. For example, €505,000 was given in November 2018 to the next of kin of 94 people who died during the deadly fires outside Athens, in Mati Attica, earlier that summer.
4. Supporting entrepreneurs with disabilities with prize money to boost economic development and job creation in their communities
In the UK, the award works in partnership with Leonard Cheshire, a charity focused on disability support. The awards are given to people with special needs who have started their own business.
5. Scholarships for young people at universities in England and at Duke
Scholarships are given so that young children with financial difficulties can attend schools and universities where Stelios Hatziioannou himself was educated (Doukas High School in Athens, LSE and City University in London).
