It came under control fire at the paint shop which was housed on the ground floor of a multi-storey building on Gounari Street in Piraeus.

As the Fire Department informed earlier, 18 firefighters with 5 vehicles and a special arm carrier tried to extinguish the fire.

Lack of security measures

Meanwhile, the Administrative Court of First Instance of Piraeus, housed on the floors of the building, denounces the lack of safety measures and the inappropriateness of the particular building in which the fire broke out, something that had happened again in the past.

The announcement:

This morning (Sunday 2.4.2023) a fire broke out in the apartment building which houses, among other offices, services and shops, the Administrative Court of First Instance of Piraeus, on Dimitriou Gounari street no. 31-33 in Piraeus.

The fire seems to have broken out in a ground floor store selling paints of the above apartment building, located in a gallery, i.e. in an area where highly flammable materials are stored. Forces of the fire department rushed to the scene and are still working to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading to the apartments above the ground floor and around the apartment building.

However, toxic fumes and thick smoke have filled the rest of the building, making the atmosphere stifling.

It is pointed out that this is the second time that the specific building has been given over to the flames (the first was in the 1980s) and that about three months ago the building was broken into, during which 7 office doors were breached, including the Court’s file , the computer room and offices of Presidents, while official computers belonging to judges and possibly containing files related to pending cases were stolen, among other things.
