It was only a matter of luck that no student or teacher was injured when part of the roof collapsed in the 6th grade of the 18th Primary School today, before the children entered the classroom from the last recess.

According to a social media post “April 3, 2023, 18th Primary School of Volos! Luckily we had no injuries today, as just as the bell rang for us to go through the last recess, a piece of the ceiling fell onto the chair and first desks in the Sixth Form hall! The English teacher who had a lesson for the last hour had just left the room to make photocopies, while the children were climbing the stairs! Cracks have also opened in other parts of the building (what will happen in an earthquake???), while we had a similar incident a few years ago! Shame and shame»!

Today’s incident shows the problem that exists with the old school units of Volos, in which, as Magnesia news.gr points out, the necessary maintenance work has not been carried out, with the result that the physical integrity of students and teachers is at risk.
