This is not the first time such an incident has occurred
Another incident of stray animals dying a tragic death after eating poisoned food happened yesterday morning in the area of Spianza, with animal lovers finding the dead dogs in the thicket.
As they complained, this is a situation that requires immediate solutions as it is not the first time a similar incident has happened, while yesterday two more dogs were killed by unknown or unknown perpetrators who may have been strays but did not pose a danger in the wider area.
Just one day after the World Homeless Day, which is a day of awareness for everyone, animal welfare organizations and animal welfare volunteers are confronted with situations that for years they have been trying to stop because as they say, “it is not the fault of the strays who are on the street but all those who while they have them at home at some point they get bored and abandon them.” After all, this is something that happens in many areas of Pyrgos as well and according to reports it turns out that the problem is getting bigger and bigger.
“We found two more dogs dead in the thicket of Spianza, which apparently someone or someone wanted to punish them by throwing traps. This is unacceptable. But I would like to say that first all those supposed animal lovers who abandon their dogs and make them strays themselves when they are not guilty of anything should be punished. This must finally stop. We keep witnessing such incidents.
They were two dogs that were not aggressive, were cared for by residents and animal lovers and did not pose a danger,” he says in the newspaper. Patris, the animal-loving volunteer and resident of the area, Mika Papandreou, who was one of the first volunteers to arrive at the scene and informed the police authorities.
Find a solution
It should be noted that the point where the dogs were “trapped” with the poisoned food was the interior of the kennel with animal lovers speaking of complete analgesia from some. The Pyrgos police department is investigating the incident, where the complaint was made, while the municipality of Pyrgos was immediately informed about the collection of the dead stray animals.
“With our frequent complaints to the competent department of the municipality of Pyrgos and the deputy mayors who were and are responsible for the homeless, we had informed about the huge problem created in our area with the abandonment of homeless people especially after the lifting of the pandemic measures. It is a fact that is constantly growing and a solution must finally be found. We, as animal lovers, take care of all the animals that are here in our area and have even sterilized them, but the municipality must also assume the responsibilities assigned to it under the law”, says Mrs. Papandreou.
As Mika Papandreou mentioned, a decision has been made by the animal-loving residents of the wider Spiantza region at their own expense to collect money and give it to anyone who gives information about the killing of the two dogs in Alsyllio.
“We will offer a reward to anyone who gives us information about the incident, a move we have decided on our own as resident animal lovers who want to stop this evil happening in our country. Some people need to understand that animals are living organisms and suffer many times more than humans when they are abandoned. Let’s change the attitudes”, emphasizes Ms. Papandreou.
